Paper machine with deckle width 5537 mm, production 200 t/ day producing paper 35 - 80 gsm of newsprint, Pussey and Jones manufacture in 1939 + rebuilds. Maximum design speed 600 m/min. Furnish used Softwood -100%, (28-48% semi –bleach kraft plus stone ground wood) and broke 15-20%. Drive L/H from the flowbox.

Stock approach

Primary fan pump is an Ingersoll Rand model 18HLV with a 1000 hp motor.

Refiners

Ground wood Beloit DD refiner 4000 series, 38” discs, MD with 1250 hp and 500 rpm motor.

Kraft Beloit DD refiner 4000 series, 24” discs.

Pressure screens

Beloit model 18 Centriscreen number 707 with rejects going to a Beloit model 24 Johnson vibrating screen

L.D. Cleaners

Bauer  623-4N L.D. twenty two primary cleaners and four secondary. Celleco Cleanpac 350 tertiary and RRC. Final stage cleaning is by a stainless steel Noss pressure screen.

Wet End

Beloit type H airpad flowbox 5969mm slice width with three evener rolls, weight control by measurex, slice controlled by actuators fitted at 152mm centres, wire fabric ( 111ft 6”x 248 ft), dandy roll 1230mm diameter, seven foil units, five suction boxes, Beloit wire frame, run out type and cantilevered, C.I. wire frame, cantilevered suction couch with Nash CL 4002 vacuum pump. Centres between breast roll and couch: 20 m approx.

Press sections

Beloit manufacture with two straight through presses, first press suction with 222 PLI loading, and second is a Venta –Nip with 450 PLI  loading. Six Nash vacuum pumps for presses.

Dryer sections

Total of 40 cylinders with diameter 1524mm. Two drive sections for dryers. Four felt dryers. Three sections are operating a cascade system with operating pressure of 30 psi, with bolted ends so they could be suitable for an increase in steam pressure subject to testing. A,F bearings with central lub system. Meaurex moisture control water shower mounted in dryer 5.

Calender stack

Single calender: 7  roll with 5 nips. Unit has Caltrol system for calender control.

Cross machine scanner

Measurex model 2002, measuring basis weight, caliper, moisture, colour, brightness, opacity, thermatrol, caltrol and Moistrol actuators.

Reel up

Sandyhill horizontal design manufactured 1989.

The machine has a dry end Sydra pulper with twin vertical rotors. This is used as a common broke pulper for all four older paper machines.

Machine Drive

Sectional electric drive driving via gearboxes. Reliance Automax 111 digital drive installed in 1989.

Rewinder

Cameron rewinder model 80, twin drum rewinder with one drive motor, score cut slitters. Rider roll programming with load cells tension control. Motor driven with a Reliance digital control system.

Machine hall has two overhead cranes.
